New Year Power Madness

As per usual at this time of year the electricity fails in the bay causing much chitter chatter and pub attendance. The cause of the outage was the junction box hanging between the telegraph poles which caught fire.

A slick of honey on the beach caused a swarm of bees to gather on the sand. The honey was soon cleaned up by some bears on loan from a circus.

Kinderland Scarborough

Very close to the excellent Peasholm Park in Scarborough is "soon to be" re developed Kinderland. The place has a certain appeal to me even though I did not visit in its heyday. Nature has a way of asserting itself in these situations.....

Stormy seas and clear skys

From the top of Ravenscar it was possible to sea Filey Brigg and further to the left Flamborough Head
A spring tide combined with a turbulant sea lead to some impressive waves. The battery on my camera went dead after I captured this one but I can promise you that all the people in picture received a good soaking.

More June Sunshine

I tried smoking the seagulls off the roof but it did not work.
There is a new sign for the donkey rides on the beach. I noticed that I made guest appearance in the background of the photo in the bottom left :o)

Not much to report except the cold weather. However the lowest tides of the year exposed large expanses of the beach which was nice to explore!

New Years Eve

Scarborough Sealife. If you want to see this attraction without the crowds my advice is to visit on New Years Eve ;-). There is some good stuff here that both my 1 year old daughter and a friends 5 year old enjoyed
Hayburn Wike once again.

Hayburn Wyke on a different day. As you can see the quantity of water is much decreased from the storm surge we saw in June.

Pantile roof tops in Robin Hoods Bay. Both of these pictures were taken with a 70-300mm lens. The first from the coastal path heading south and the second from the coastal path heading north at Bay Ness.

The baby seagulls have almost flown the nests and the rooftops will return to peace and quiet for a while. This gull liked to wake us up at 4 o'clock every morning - much like our 7 month old daughter.

Water, Water everywhere

On a coastal walk from Scarborough to Robin Hoods Bay we were caught up in a few thunderstorms and then managed to reach Hayburn Wyke as the Hayburn Beck was in full flow. The brown water from the beck had stained the sea.

A closer view of Hayburn Beck as it falls into Hayburn Wike with video too!

Sunrise

I am always amazed bythe sunrises in Robin Hoods Bay. This sunrise photographed this morning after I was rudely awoken by my three week old daughter is a good example.

The unusually warm weather enabled the wearing of a t shirt for most of the day and so I am beginning to wonder whether GCH is needed with all this Global warming. Maybe it is nature's way of sorting everything out.

The Rainbow in this picture ended in the the Bay Hotel bar. On investigation the pot of gold had been replaced with scampi in a basket and 4 pints of Deuchars.

Burton House

Burton House is a new holiday let for the lower bay area of Robin Hoods Bay. We are taking lets from March onwards hopefully after the installation of a new central heating system which should make the place as cosy as anything. Due to the property's location on the sea wall the GCH is needed believe me !!

The new updated Burton House website can be found here www.burtonhouse.info
